Jewish Family Services has a volunteer opportunity for high school students. It is located only a few blocks from CHS, so this could be convenient for students with some free time after school.
Specifically, they are looking for some help in their Refugee Resettlement department. It would involve helping their families apply for public assistance, and helping with set up and organization of case files. More adventurous students could also help with orientations or setting up apartments for arriving families.

On December 22, 2010, the Dr. George E. Blackman School of Excellence, Early Childhood Center #54 @ #78, 345 Olympic Avenue will be holding an ELA/Math (Title I) activity day, wherein parents are invited in to receive hands-on training with the school's ELA/Math programs in their children's classrooms.
Teachers in the primary grades (K-2) have requested extra help for that day. Students will be needed from 9:00 am until about noon. The school can arrange transportation and will provide a lunch.
Email Mrs. Banas (ebanas@buffaloschools.org) with your phone number if you can DEFINITELY make it that day. Mrs. Banas will give your contact information to the coordinators of this event at the school.
