Fruitbelt Coalition needs volunteers - December 10 from 11-4

On Saturday, December 10, The Fruitbelt Coalition will once again hold its annual “Christmas in the City” event at the Moot Center on High Street to benefit young children in the Fruitbelt Neighborhood.

Student volunteers are needed from 11:00am to 4:00pm to assist with set-up, clean-up, serving refreshments and other tasks to make the event a success. This is a great opportunity to help to put a smile on the face of a child in need during this holiday season!

Students with interest should email Sue Michalek from the Fruitbelt Coalition at meemsart2@aol.com as soon as possible. Questions about the event can also be directed to Ms. Michalek.

Volunteers needed to start "closing" Pelion Garden for the season

On November 8th (Election Day - a day off for BPS students) from 9am-noon students and their families can come to the garden for community service hours. They will be starting to close the garden for the season. Tasks will include: seed collecting, clearing ground cover in the growing areas, harvesting, pruning, cutting back perennials, digging/transplanting plants, weeding, and uprooting volunteer trees.

NO SKILLS NECESSARY; please bring your own gloves and dress for the weather. No need to sign up - just show up.

Snacks will be provided at the end - using some of the veggies harvested that day. Parents are welcome to contribute extra. They will also give away many small perennials, including: white yarrow, daisies, orange day lilies, and others.

If you have extra seeds, tools or other garden equipment to donate, please bring them with you or let us know about it.

We will also collect BoxTops, mobile e-junk and clear glass bottles for our mosaic project.

Finally, if anyone has a rototiller, that would be very helpful in clearing out Three Sisters Island.

RAIN DATE: Friday, November 11th from 9am-noon.

Volunteers needed at Tri-Main Indoor Street Fair on March 12, 2016

To help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Tri-Main Center, an “Indoor Street Fair” will be held on March 12th from 11:00-4:00pm. It will be a family friendly indoor street fair, and is in partnership with Aspire (all proceeds raised will go to Aspire).

Many volunteers are needed - especially to run the games.

For students who need creativity hours, you can design a putt-putt station for the event. Should you need a head start on building materials…. Tri-Main has wooden pallets available.

Also for creativity hours, there is a Face Painting station, Corn Hole Competition (companies/schools can donate a set/decorate it), and Balloon Animals station.

Additionally, there will be a Tricycle Obstacle Course, Hockey Shot Contest, Make & Race Hover Board, “Chalk Alley” (A string of sidewalk chalk portraits…on an entire floor!), and 25th Anniversary Community Mural (paint by numbers)

Students can sign up for a shift or for the entire day:

The shifts are: 11:00am-1:30pm and 1:30-4:00pm

If you would like to volunteer, email Jessica Edwards at: jedwards@trimaincenter.com
